"I want a friend"

Today I am continuing a series I started last autumn that I forgot about!  Anyway, this series is the story of each of my sponsor children.

Read part one here - Love is an Action: How God Brought Me to Compassion

Part two here - Love is an Action: "My Angel"

September 2011

my first photo of Lucie
After I got the courage to ask my dad for another child, I requested a 13-16 year old girl. I wanted a friend. I checked my account multiple times every day (still do when I request another child!). It was September 8, just three months after I saw my Kartini (Aprila) for the first time. I had just finished school, so I grabbed my laptop, clicked to go to my Compassion account, and saw two names!

Ah, my excitement! She stood looking back at me in a white dress with a red dress shirt under it. She looked so beautiful- the white and bright against her dark skin. I read every word about Lucie, and I waited impatiently for the packet in the mail. Then it came, and I read every word again. I wanted to know my new friend.

Well, she is very precious to me, and she's my friend. It isn't like I would have imagined it. At first, she didn't write much or often, but last year she wrote me 7 times!!  The correspondent program is such a blessing :)

New Photo!!

I was soo excited to see a new photo on my Compassion account today (ask my sister)!!!  I have been waiting for a couple photo updates and I haven't gotten a letter in over a month, so that made me way excited to see the new photo!

I know, you are dying to know whose photo it is.  Well, it is my beautiful Lucie from Haiti.  She was my second Compassion correspondent, and the only one who has had two photo updates thus far.

Without further ado, here she is!!

Isn't she beautiful?

I am still waiting for her high-resolution photo and her updated info, but I am so glad to have this picture right now.  I can't wait to write her and tell her that she is beautiful.  And of course, tell her that I would love to see her smile :)

A Random Post of Bracelets and Links

Happy Saturday!

Kimmy posted on OurCompassion (you can view it HERE) that Wally would be going to Indonesia to visit his family's sponsored child.  Because kids are always around, he thought it would be nice to give them each a bracelet.  I am making some friendship bracelets, but you can make any type you want.  HERE is the link for more details.

Back in the spring, Compassion started their new topic for Compassion Sunday 2012.  It was Change the Story.  I made a page about how I changed the story.  Basically it is just a really short paragraph about how I became involved with Compassion.  You can read that HERE.

BTW, I joined OurCompassion, and you should too!  I have been able to find people who sponsor kids from the same centers I do, and I even saw a picture of Lucie's project!
