It's the word you use when you haven't eaten in a couple hours. It's when you go to your kitchen and find a snack.
It's the feeling of hunger. It's when your tummy grumbles. It's the feeling you get when you want to eat.
It's the reality for 870 million people. It's more than a feeling. It's been more than a couple hours since they ate.
They are starving.
Their starvation will likely lead to disabilities and death. They do not have enough food.
Almost 15% of people in developing countries are hungry - starving. Starvation causes stunted growth (mental and physical) and other health problems. Almost half of the deaths of children worldwide are caused by malnutrition, a result of not enough food.
By sponsoring a child, you stop that. Starvation will not be a reality for the child anymore. She may not still have as much food as you, but she will have nutritious food that will help her grow.
Save a child's life. End starvation for a child. Sponsor a child today.

This is so true!
ReplyDeleteI'm starving has become a throwaway statement but it is real for so many people. x
Yep, Jenny. It was a throwaway statement for me too, but now whenever I think about saying it, I remember how blessed I am.
DeleteSuch a big difference between the two. Good post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marilyn! :)
DeleteThis is a very true reality and eye-opening post. I remember when we first became involved with Compassion, we really took in to account the phrases like "I'm starving" that we so often use in our culture today. While we may be "very hungry", there is certainly a difference between hunger and starvation. I am thankful I have never experienced starvation, and I'm also blessed to be able to ensure our sponsored children do not experience this sad reality either. I'm praying for those who experience starvation to be rescued from both their physical and spiritual hunger by a special and loving sponsor. Thanks for this grate reminder, and have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteThank you Miranda! :) Yes, there is such a difference between hunger and starvation. It is always good to know that our kiddos are taken care of too. I know our God hears our prayers and I know that they are making a difference in those peoples' lives too. May God bless you!!
DeleteWhat a good reminder!!! When I was single I tried to fast once a week and instead of eating prayed for my kids....my hungry stomach always helped remind me to pray! It was sometimes hard to last one day without food...I can't imagine the feeling of starving. I'm so glad that organizations like Compassion can help kids in dire situations!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that must have been tough to fast for a whole day. What a great way to remember your kiddos though and spend time in prayer for those less fortunate. Yes, Compassion is such a blessing to so many starving (physically and spiritually) children and families! :)
